DETROIT, May 6, 2024 ~ During the University of Michigan‘s commencement Saturday, dozens of student activists disrupted the ceremony to criticize the school’s involvement with Israel and show support for Palestinians.

The ceremony at Michigan Stadium briefly saw the activists stand up and chant while wearing keffiyehs, waving Palestinian flags, and holding banners, with one saying “No universities left in Gaza,” referring to all of Gaza’s 12 universities that have been damaged or destroyed in Israel’s bombing campaign. Some students held up Israeli flags or symbols in response. U-M has seen widespread protests for months calling for the school to divest funds from companies tied to Israel amid its military campaign that has killed over 34,500 people in Gaza, including an encampment set on the University Diag for the past two weeks.
