The 2020 recruiting class in the Volusia/Flagler area could produce a pair of the nation's most coveted football players.

DeLand defensive back Avantae Williams and Atlantic linebacker Ty Berrong cracked the initial Top 247 sophomore rankings, released by 247Sports last Wednesday. Williams (6-0, 170) checks in at No. 80 and Berrong (6-2, 212) debuts at No. 161.

Williams, a Miami commit, spent the 2017 football season at IMG Academy in Bradenton before returning to DeLand in January. He made 77 tackles for the Bulldogs as a freshman in 2016.

Berrong broke out in a big way last fall, earning All-Area first-team honors at Spruce Creek. He helped the Hawks reach the playoffs for the second year in a row with 73 tackles, adding four interceptions and one touchdown. He chose to enroll at Atlantic in December, roughly a week after DJ Mayo, Spruce Creek's former defensive coordinator, was named the Sharks' head coach.

Thus far, Berrong claims offers from Florida and North Carolina. He recently took an unofficial visit to Georgia.

Mainland's Smith lands first offer

Rangy Mainland junior safety Carlos Smith Jr. said he picked up his first Division I football offer last week, from Liberty University.

Smith (6-4, 185) snagged three interceptions in the Bucs' secondary last year, earning an All-Area honorable mention. He spent the previous two seasons at Warner Christian.

Killins adds Tulane to growing list

Spruce Creek junior cornerback Travon Killins continues to pull in Division I verbal offers, adding Tulane to the list on Saturday.

Killins (5-9, 155) recorded 20 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception for the Hawks. Last month, he posted a 4.57-second time in the 40-yard dash at Nike's The Opening regional camp in Miami.

Thus far, Killins also claims offers from Arkansas State, Iowa State, Marshall, Memphis and Minnesota.

Kamara commits to Arizona Western

Mainland senior quarterback Richard Kamara will take his talents to the JUCO level.

Kamara (6-0, 175) announced his commitment to Arizona Western last week. The Minnesota native completed 62 percent of his passes for 880 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

He'll look to follow a similar path to former Buc running back Trey Rodriguez, who landed a Division I scholarship from Marshall after attending Arizona Western in 2016.
