Less than a year after winning the National League MVPGiancarlo Stanton isn't even going to the All-Star Game.

Stanton lost the American League Fan Vote on Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced.

The Mariners' Jean Segura beat out the other four men in the running.

Stanton was also up against the Red Sox's Andrew Benintendi, the Twins' Eddie Rosario and the Angels' Andrelton Simmons.

Easy to argue that Stanton might have earned his spot in the Midsummer Classic with a strong June and July.

Stanton was hitting .269 with 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 350 at-bats entering Wednesday.

Since June 1, he's hit .301 with 11 bombs, 23 RBI and a .950 OPS in 146 at-bats.

Before June 1, he hit just .245 with 11 homers and 29 RBI in 204 at-bats.

The Yankees acquired Stanton, carrying the game's biggest contract, in a trade with the Marlins in the offseason.

Here's what you need to know, via MLB:

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar and Seattle Mariners shortstop Jean Segura were voted by the fans as the winners of the 2018 Camping World All-Star Final Vote, it was announced earlier this evening on MLB Network's MLB Tonight.  Aguilar and Segura earned the final roster spots on the National League and American League All-Star teams through online voting on MLB.com, the 30 Club sites and mobile devices.  Now in its 17th season, the All-Star Final Vote has recorded over 845 million votes.

Aguilar drew 20.2 million votes en route to securing his first Midsummer Classic selection.  His vote total marked the second-highest total ever in a Final Vote, behind only Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers (20.8 million in 2017).  The 28-year-old native of Venezuela was followed in the NL Final Vote by Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants, Max Muncy of the Dodgers, Trea Turner of the host Washington Nationals and Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Aguilar, who is tied for the NL lead with 23 home runs, joins his teammates Lorenzo Cain, Josh Hader and Christian Yelich as Brewers selected to the NL All-Star roster.  Since the All-Star Final Vote began in 2002, Aguilar is now the third Brewers player to win the competition, following Geoff Jenkins (2003) and Corey Hart (2008).

Segura will make his second trip to the All-Star Game (also 2013) after receiving 13.6 million votes in the Final Vote competition.  The 28-year-old native of the Dominican Republic was followed in the AL Final Vote by Andrew Benintendi of the Boston Red Sox, Giancarlo Stanton of the New York Yankees, Eddie Rosario of the Minnesota Twins and Andrelton Simmons of the Los Angeles Angels.  Segura, who ranks second in the Majors with 116 hits, becomes the fourth Mariners player on the AL roster, joining teammates Nelson Cruz, Edwin Diaz and Mitch Haniger.  In addition, Segura is the first Mariners player to ever come out on top of an All-Star Final Vote.

With the new All-Star appointments, there are now 28 first-time All-Stars (12 AL, 16 NL), 29 players (16 AL, 13 NL) age 27-or-younger and 24 foreign-born players (15 AL, 9 NL) on the 2018 All-Star rosters.  The 24 foreign-born players include players from Venezuela (8), Puerto Rico (6), the Dominican Republic (4), Cuba (2), Curacao (2), Canada (1) and South Korea (1).
