SLALOM canoeist Mallory Franklin admitted to shaking with nerves after finishing second in the BT Sport Action Woman of the Year Awards ceremony on Monday.
It has been a spectacular year for the Windsor paddler after she took her first senior World Championship gold medal with a thrilling run during the C1 final in Pau.
Success in Pau continued as Franklin walked away with the C1 team gold with fellow athletes Kimberley Woods and Eilidh Gibson.
Earlier in the year Franklin, whose brother Zac is also a canoeist, shone at the Under-23 World Championships in Bratislava winning three medals including gold in the C1 event. Franklin, 23, was delighted to finish second in the poll.
“It was such an incredible night at the BT Sport Action Woman Awards and to come second is actually unbelievable,” she said.
“I enjoyed it so much even though I was shaking through most of it.
“Thank you so much to everyone that voted for me.”
England footballer Jodie Taylor, who won the Golden Boot at Euro 2017, won the award presented by Frank Lampard at a glamorous ceremony held at the BT Sport Studios in London. Tennis player Johanna Konta was third.
The England cricket team and Judy Murray were also honoured for their achievements.
