Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (CGA-SLE) on Thursday, April 17, 2025, concluded a vibrant one-day outreach event titled the Commonwealth Game Changer Project, held at the Kroo Bay Community Field. The initiative aimed to raise awareness on inclusivity, diversity, and community development through education and sports.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Inclusivity, Diversity and Community Awareness through Education and Sport,” brought together 75 pupils from three local primary schools: Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School, Holy Annunciation Orthodox Christian School, and FAWE Primary School, each represented by 25 students. Four pupils from each school also participated in a lively inter-school quiz competition.
CGA-SLE President Prince Vandy Sualley led the delegation and joined the pupils in marking the occasion. The event was also attended by Vice President Idriss Moussaoui, Executive Member Victor Amara, Secretary General Ahmed Khanou, Project Manager Bai Bangura, Chairman of the Athletes Commission Francis Faiya, Alie Gibril Koroma of the Handball Association, Mrs. Mariama Rollings-Kamara of the Triathlon Association, and other CGA-SLE members. The three traditional chiefs of Kroo Bay—Pa Alimamy Mahruf Conteh, Pa Alimamy Gbenpa Kargbo, and Pa Alimamy Tamrokoh Soriba Bangura—were also present.
In his welcome address, Pa Conteh expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the community, thanking CGA-SLE for bringing such an impactful initiative to Kroo Bay.
Speaking at the event, Acting Secretary General Ahmed Khanou expressed gratitude to the traditional leaders and residents of Kroo Bay for their warm reception. He emphasized the importance of using sport as a tool for education and positive change in underprivileged communities.
The day featured exciting performances from young athletes representing the Gymnastics Federation, Wrestling Association, and Karate Federation, who showcased their skills and entertained the crowd.
The event concluded with the presentation of prizes to winners of the quiz competition. FAWE Primary School clinched first place, followed by Holy Annunciation Orthodox Christian School in second, and Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School in third. All 75 participating pupils received gift items as tokens of appreciation. BT/20/4/2025
