Mercury Roundup (April 28): Perk Valley and OJR softball both remain hot as each wins seventh consecutive game on Monday

Softball

Perkiomen Valley 9, Boyertown 3

Maci Strechay struck out six in a complete game win while also going 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate to help PV win its seventh straight game on Monday. Nina Marsilio was on base in all four of her plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for the Vikings (14-2, 8-2 PAC, 5-2 Liberty).

Rielynn Carey homered in the loss for Boyertown (9-6, 5-5, 2-5), while Aubrey Gilbert had three hits in four at-bats.

Owen J. Roberts 15, Spring-Ford 3

Maddie Reed fanned eight batters across six strong innings as the red-hot Wildcats also won their seventh consecutive game on Monday, pounding out 16 hits in the process. Jacqueline Skonieczny went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Liza Flavin also chipped in a three-hit, three-RBI effort. Rachel Epps had two hits and two RBI for OJR (13-3, 7-3 PAC, 4-3 Liberty) and Reed, Amelia Atkins and Gracelyn Przborowski all crossed the plate three times.

Autumn Eck and Mia Fanaro each had a hit and RBI for the Rams (9-7, 7-3, 4-3).

Methacton 10, Upper Perkiomen 2

Sadie Fitch struck out 10 in five innings of work in the pitching circle and eight of the nine Methacton bats recorded at least one hit to stay atop the PAC Liberty Division. Kaitlin Pettine, Jill McTamney and Avery Kenney all had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors (15-2, 10-1 PAC, 6-1 Liberty), with the latter two scoring two runs apiece as well.

Riley Eden produced Upper Perk’s lone RBI on the day, while Olivia Gehringer and Kristina Molnar combined for five stolen bases for the Indians (5-12, 1-9, 0-7).

Pope John Paul II 15, Norristown 4

Grace Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI and Rylee Derecola added three hits and three RBI of her own as PJP secured a dominant PAC Frontier win on Monday. Charlie Hallman and Kelly Murphy had two hits and runs scored each and Abby Simmers produced a hit, two RBI and three runs scored. Lexi DiBridica struck out eight in six innings to pick up the win for the Golden Panthers (10-6, 6-4 PAC, 5-2 Frontier).

Alana Ecehvarria was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Kira Beatty had two hits and a run scored in the loss for Norristown (5-8, 3-7, 3-4).

Phoenixville 16, Pottsgrove 0

Katie Clarke fanned a dozen batters in six shutout innings while also going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored as the Phoenixville bats overwhelmed Pottsgrove in a PAC Frontier win. Olivia Stec had two hits and three RBI, Alina Rakowski doubled and knocked in three and Anna Davidson notched three hits and scored three runs for the Phantoms (8-8, 5-6 PAC, 5-2 Frontier).

Hayden Pysher collected two of the three hits and Mackenzie Johnson struck out nine in the circle for Pottsgrove (5-11, 2-8, 2-5).

Upper Merion 22, Pottstown 3

Devon Maiden, Molly Gilliland, Piper Edge and Brielle Baessler combined to go 13-for-15 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored from the top four spots in the order to lead Upper Merion to a runaway PAC Frontier win on Monday. Baessler and Haylee Legerton teamed up to strike out nine in four innings of work in the pitching circle for UM (9-5, 7-3 PAC, 6-1 Frontier).

Julia Draucker went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Angelina Quiles and Triniti Rhodes-Fisher also collected two hits for Pottstown (0-12, 0-10, 0-7).

Baseball

Phoenixville 6, Boyertown 0

Cadin Coleman allowed just one hit and one walk with nine strikeouts across seven dominant innings to help Phoenixville win for the third time in its last four games on Monday. Giovanni Vito (2-for-3, RBI, R), Chris Mull (1-for-2, 2 RBI, SB) and Bobby Gray (2-for-3, RBI) all backed their starting pitcher with strong offensive days for the Phantoms (8-7, 7-5 PAC, 4-2 Liberty).

Boyertown’s record slipped to 7-8, 6-6 and 2-4 with the defeat.

Methacton 8, Owen J. Roberts 1

Tommy Kratz had three hits and three RBI and Colin Carr went 3-for-3 with three RBI as Methacton won its third consecutive game on Monday. Nick Trigone struck out eight in 4.2 innings to earn the win for the Warriors (11-4, 8-4 PAC, 3-3 Liberty).

Sam Taylor had an RBI, scored a run and reached base all four times in the loss for OJR (5-10, 4-8, 1-5).

Pope John Paul II 10, Upper Merion 3

Chase Frantz went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored while Luke Terlesky and Braylen Kupp added multiple RBI to help PJP stay unbeaten against PAC Frontier opponents. Carson Glose fanned seven in six innings to pick up the victory for the Golden Panthers (10-2, 9-2 PAC, 5-0 Frontier).

John Tomsho was 2-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases, two RBI and a run scored in the loss for the Vikings (8-6, 7-5, 4-2).

Pottstown 6, Pottsgrove 2

Cole Boyles reached base four times and knocked in two runs while striking out seven across five innings to help Pottstown win its second straight game on Monday. Semaj Laws knocked in a pair of runs and Reece Murphy was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored for the Trojans (3-11, 2-10 PAC, 2-4 Frontier).

Brandon McGinley struck out six in six innings of work on the mound and also was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Luka Pennisi and Charlie Potpinko collected seven hits between them for the Falcons (3-11, 3-9, 3-3).

Upper Perkiomen 10, Norristown 0

Brayden Adam, Jack Rieg and Jackson Long all knocked in two runs while Zane Seager had two hits, two runs and a stolen base to help Upper Perk blank PAC Frontier rival Norristown. Long pitched five shutout innings with three strikeouts for the Indians (9-7, 6-6 PAC, 3-3 Frontier) in the win.

Brett Murphy and Chase Logan produced multi-hit efforts in the loss for Norristown (3-12, 1-10, 0-5).

Girls Lacrosse

Owen J. Roberts 18, Methacton 8

Laina Grimm led the OJR attack with four goals and Keira Clemson notched a hat trick as OJR remained tied atop the PAC Liberty with Spring-Ford on Monday. Pippi Waldman, Emmy Youngblood and Natalie Chin all scored twice for the Wildcats (14-2, 11-1 PAC, 8-1 Liberty), while Eva Sawchuck and Avani Mehta also found the back of the net. Eden Barnett made eight saves in goal.

Bella Catania scored three times to lead Methacton. Lea DeWan, Alexa Diezel, Gabby Dwyer, Piper Evangelist and Sam Gambone also scored for the Warriors (5-11, 5-6, 2-6), while Callie Fisher posted 10 saves.

Spring-Ford 19, Perkiomen Valley 4

Hailey Mozi’s eight goals and six draw controls paced Spring-Ford as the Rams stayed tied atop the division standings with OJR ahead of Wednesday’s huge home game against SF. Rella Talley and Riley Czapor each chipped in three goals, Megan Curran chipped in two assists and Emma Kaercher came away with eight saves for Spring-Ford (12-3, 11-1 PAC, 8-1 Liberty).

Julia Foley scored twice for PV (7-10, 6-6, 3-6), while Sophia Lanza and Kendall Tobin tallied additional goals. Charlotte Foster made nine saves in goal.

Upper Perkiomen 21, Norristown 4

Olivia Keyser and Mia Ulmer combined for eight goals and five assists as Upper Perk jumped out an 8-2 halftime lead and never looked back. Giana Kozminski, Ava Senseny, Angelina Glackin and Marianne Uber produced multi-goal efforts, and Summer Hollister, Jade Bugman, Gabby Lash and Maguire Simms also scored for the Indians (5-12, 4-8 PAC, 4-5).

Norristown fell to 4-12, 1-10 and 1-7 against division opponents in the defeat.

Pope John Paul II 16, Pottstown 3

Camryn Grimley paced PJP with three goals and Regan Kirby and Erin Hunter scored twice apiece to lead the Golden Panthers (6-9, 6-6 PAC, 6-3 Frontier) to a division win against visiting Pottstown on Monday. The Trojans slipped to 0-14, 0-11 and 0-8 with the setback.

Upper Merion 20, Pottsgrove 9

Mackenzie Davis scored six times and Elisa Dougherty added two goals and six assists as UM hung a 20-spot on Pottsgrove in Monday’s PAC Frontier contest. Maura Besz and Jess Reinhardt each posted hat tricks, Gabby Callison had two goals and two assists and Sydney Reed chipped in three assists for the Vikings (11-4, 10-2 PAC, 9-0 Frontier).

Cece Hires’ four goals led Pottsgrove, while Josie Wyatt also notched a multi-goal performance. Vivian Kyler, Layla Jelbaoui and Sophia Singleton rounded out the scoring and Kierstyn Schatz made 12 saves for the Falcons (9-6, 6-6, 6-3).

Phoenixville 9, Boyertown 8

Boys Lacrosse

Souderton 9, Owen J. Roberts 8

OJR led 7-2 heading into the fourth quarter of Monday’s non-league home contest with Souderton, but the Indians scored seven of the eight goals in the final period to stun the Wildcats. OJR fell to 9-5 overall, while Souderton won for the 14th time in 15 games this season.
