Jonesville softball player Addison Horton wins Week 6 HD Mechanical Athlete of the Week

HILLSDALE COUNTY — Congratulations to Jonesville softball player Addison Horton for winning the Week 6 HD Mechanical Heating, Cooling and Plumbing Supply House Athlete of the Week honor.
Horton earned 41 percent of the total vote to be declared the winner. Addison Horton was nominated for Week 6 after earning the win in a 16-3 victory over Addison. Horton threw five innings, struck out seven batters and allowed just two earned runs. Horton would add another four strikeouts later in the week in a game against Springport. At the plate, Horton had three hits, two RBIs, four runs and two steals for Week 6.
The reader's choice voted runner-up was Hillsdale boys track senior Miles Brown. In the finale event of the LCAA championship meet, Hillsdale's 4x400-meter boys relay team brought home a conference title. The team of senior Miles Brown, Cam Arnold, Evan Towne and senior Dominick Coke finished ahead of the competition by more than three seconds, earning a final time of 3:34.72, to win the title and first-team all-conference honors. Brown also earned a conference title in the 400-meter dash with a new PR time of 51.94 seconds.
The Hillsdale Daily News' choice for the Week 6 Athlete of the Week honor is Hillsdale Academy sophomore Lucy Cote. The sophomore was a four-time SCAA East division champion, helping her team win a conference division title. Cote won both the 100 and 300 hurdles with respective times of 16.59 seconds and a new PR time of 47.72. Cote earned another division title with the 4x100 team of Madison Sallows, Cate Gaetano and Ella O'Grady when they won with a time of 54.01. Her fourth division title honor came with the 4x400 team that included Sallows, Georgia Whalen and Caroline Roberts. They won with a time of 4:18.69.
Honorable Mentions
- Drew Elder - Reading Baseball: The senior ace was responsible for shutting down Concord in a 17-1 victory on the road, throwing eight strikeouts and giving up just four hits. He also earned a save striking out two North Adams batters in a 12-2 final. Elder also had four hits, four RBIs and a run in Week 6.
- Carson Young - Jonesville Baseball: Young passed the 100-putout mark in Week 6, earning 17 for the week. He also contributed four hits, two doubles, two RBIs and a run.
- Aubree Ervans - Reading Softball: The senior contributed seven total runs to her teams' three wins in Week 6. Ervans also had a double, a triple, five total hits and three RBIs for Week 6.
- Megan Kast - Hillsdale Girls Track and Field: Two Hillsdale girls relay teams share three athletes in Effie Heckel, Emily York and Megan Kast. Joined by Jayce Graham (4x100) and Brooklyn Slovacek (4x200), the trio ran down conference titles in both races at the LCAA championship meet. Anchored by senior Megan Kast, the 4x100 team won with a time of 51.88 seconds, and the 4x200 team won with a time of 1:50.91. Kast also ran down all-conference honors in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She earned second in both events. Her times of 13.16 (100) and 27.39 (200) seconds were new personal records for the senior.
- Zander Goodwin - Jonesville Boys Track and Field: The senior ran down three Cascades conference titles in Week 6. This included sweeping the boys hurdles events, winning both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. He earned a new PR of 14.99 seconds in the 110 to win, and he earned a new PR time of 39.77 in the 300. He also anchored the 4x200 relay team of Logan Stanton, Makinlee Packer and Ryan Marcavage to a conference title, earning the win with a final time of 1:33.29.
- The Pittsford Boys Track 4x100 and 4x200 relay team: The same team of Brendon Nave, Draven Moor, Teagan Williams and Mondale Kneffler ran down SCAA East division titles in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relay events. The team won the 4x100 with a time of 46.07 and the 4x200 with a time of 1:36.96. The team featured two athletes who won additional titles. Williams won pole vault and Nave won long jump.
- Will Thielen - Will Carleton Academy Boys Golf: Will Thielen became the second Cougar athlete this golf season to break a school record. Thielen is the new WCA record holder for lowest round score in a 9-hole event. He accomplished the feat at the SCAA jamboree hosted by Mendon. He shot a 40 over nine holes with four pars and a birdie. He tied for first overall in the individual scoring and helped the team place second in final team scores.
