REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

NO. 5 ROBERT E. LEE (9-1) AT NO. 1 COLUMBIA (10-1)

Last week: Columbia def. Fletcher 38-10, Lee def. Hagerty 48-7 in regional quarterfinals

Series: Since 2009, Columbia leads 6-3, including winning 42-37 in regular season

What’s Next: Columbia would host No. 3 Lincoln or No. 7 Edgewater in next Friday’s regional finals; Lee would host Edgewater or travel to Lincoln.

Preview: This is a rematch of the 2016 regional semifinals, in which Lee won convincingly in Jacksonville en route to the state semifinals. Columbia held off the Generals during the regular season, a game in which Tigers’ starting quarterback Jordan Smith got knocked out late in the first half. Sophomore backup Ty Wehinger stepped in and tossed a pair of TD passes to TJ Jones, and strong safety Anmad Williams stripped the ball from Lee running back Kevonte Doles and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown and a 28-14 Columbia lead. It was the Generals only loss this season, and they have won six straight since. Coached by former Gator and Ocala Forest High graduate O.J. Small, Lee is led by senior QB Cameron Sapp (2,051 passing, 22 TDs, 6 Ints.), WR/RB Tahveon Nicholson (333-702 yards, 6 TDs as receiver, 293 yards, 7 TDs as RB). Senior LB Trevor James has 101 tackles with 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Smith has passed for 3,046 yards with 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Tigers pass 66 percent of the time, with top targets being junior Marquez Bell (52-1,044, 13 TDs), Jones (42-833, 8 TDs), Bobby Fulton (47-667, 9 TDs). Junior RB Kylen Callum has 834 yards rushing with 10 TDs. Defensively, senior LB Ethan Umstead has 91 tackles, junior LB Le’Vontae Camiel has 18 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. Sophomore DB Shyheim Brown has three interceptions.

NO. 3 DUNNELLON (6-5) AT NO. 2 SANTA FE (5-5)

Last week: Santa Fe had a bye; Dunnellon def. South Sumter 41-13 in regional quarterfinals

Series: Since 2004, Dunnellon leads 6-5, but Santa Fe won last meeting (15-14) in in 2015 regional finals.

What’s next: Santa Fe or Dunnellon would host P.K. Yonge or travel to The Villages in next Friday’s regional finals

Preview: This is the Raiders first playoff game since 2016 and first at home since 2015. The visiting Tigers have won three straight games. AJ Hamilton had a 60-yard TD run in a dominating playoff win over South Sumter, and Emanuel Caballero had a pick 6. Santa Fe is led by junior QB/RB Deron Reid, who is an effective runner is either position. In regular-season final loss to 7A Buchholz, Reid scored on a 73-yard run and on a 99-yard punt return.

Preview: P.K. Yonge won its first playoff game since 2004 last week, and looks to reach its first regional final in 16 years with a victory over the Buffalo. The Blue Wave are led by senior Israel Wilcox, who is averaging 120 all-purpose yards a game, and has 693 yards rushing, 501 yards receiving with a combined 21 touchdowns. Senior QB Carter Kutchko has passed for 2,506 yards with 29 TDs and just five interceptions. The Byrd twins, Jacorbi and Jacari, combine for 65 receptions for 1,219 yards and 15 TDs. Junior LB Grant Dycus had a team-leading 133 tackles and junior DB Brandon Jenkins has four interceptions. The Villages averages 284 yards rushing a game, led by juniors Mac Harris (957 yards, 19 TDs), Bryce Mellado (749, 12 TDs) and sophomore Corey Goldwire (779, 12 TDs). Harris, at QB, has passed for 833 yards with 7 TDs and 3 interceptions. Defensively, the Buffalo have 29 sacks and 78 tackles for loss.

NO. 3 DIXIE COUNTY (8-3) AT NO. 2 CHIEFLAND (9-1)

Series: Since 2005, Dixie County leads 12-2; lost 27-20 to Chiefland during regular season

What’s next: Winner would host No. 4 Lafayette or travel to No. 1 Madison County in next Friday’s regional finals

Preview: The visiting Bears look to avenge one of its tough losses on season in a game they trailed throughout. Senior RB Carlos Williams Jr. has 1,327 yards rushing with 20 TDs. He was held to 71 yards in the regular-season loss. It was the Indians first win over Dixie County since 2008. Chiefland QB Ty Corbin had two big runs, both scores, from 77 and 33 yards, which clinched the win. Should be another classic.

What’s next: Lafayette would travel to Chiefland or Dixie County in regional finals on Nov. 23; Madison County would host either school

Preview: The visiting Hornets face a tough test on Boot Hill against the defending 1A state champion Cowboys. Junior QB Jaxson Beach accounts for almost 300 total yards a game for Lafayette, passing for 2,178 yards with 27 TDs and rushing for 1,110 yards and 15 scores. Senior RB Garris Edwards has 1,043 yards with 12 TDs, and senior WR Ben Massey has 39 catches for 1,004 yards and 17 scores. Madison County’s defense is led by Patrick Hamilton, who has 17 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. The Cowboys have 45 sacks and 103 tackles for loss. Offensively, senior Travis Jay has passed for 1,095 yards with nine TDs, and Madison averages 279 yards a game rushing, led by Vinsonta Allen (984 yards, 9 TDs), Jay (719, 17 TDs) and Robert Hiers (721, 4 TDs).

Preview: Hawthorne has been dominate, outscoring opponents 543-40 this season. The Hornets closest game was a 42-14 win over previously-unbeaten Chiefland. Senior QB Kahleil Jackson has thrown for 2,310 yards with 38 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He has also rushed for 401 yards with seven scores. Senior RB Uveekie Fields has 1,036 yards rushing and 12 catches for 334 yards receiving, with a combined 23 touchdowns. Top receiving targets are Jeremiah James (29-757, 11 TDs) and Devonte Bowie (33-598, 12 TDs). Defensively, the Hornets are giving up an average of 4 points a game and has seven shutouts. The visiting Raiders are also balanced, with QB Naykee Scott (1,667, 14 TDs, 10 INTs; 664 rushing, 14 TDs), RB Kevin Williams (587, 10 TDs) and WR Bernard Wright III (37-567, 7 TDs). DE Jontre Tape has seven sacks, 70 tackles and 13 TFL.
