St. FX teams were on the road Friday…

The X-Men Football team fell 44-25 to Acadia in Wolfville. while in Fredericton the X-Women Hockey team skated to a 2-0 triumph over St. Thomas.

In exhibition Basketball, the X-Women lost 61-52 to Wilfred Laurier, while at the Calgary Invitational Tournament, the X-Men were outscored 99-90 by the Calgary Dinos.

Today, members of the X-Men & X-Women Cross Country teams are competing in tournaments in Charlottetown and Montreal.

In Hockey, the X-Women play in Moncton at 7, while the X-Men take on Acadia in Wolfville at 7.

The X-Men Basketball squad’s next opponents at the Calgary Invitational are Mount Royal, playing at 3pm Calgary time.


In Junior Hockey, the Antigonish A.A. Munro Junior Bulldogs got the victory 6-4 over the Penguins in East Hants. The Strait Pirates were also winners, 7-4 over Liverpool.

Today, the Strait Pirates visit the Brookfield Elks at 4. On Sunday, the Bulldogs host the Junior Miners at 7:30 at the Antigonish Arena.


The Major Midget League sees the CB West Islanders at home against Cole Harbour tonight at 6, while the Weeks Major Midgets are in Berwick to face the Valley Wildcats at 7.


In the Maritime Hockey League, the Pictou County Weeks Crushers host the South Shore Lumberjacks at the Wellness Centre at 7.


The Cabot Highlanders are at Colchester Legion Stadium in Truro to play the Fundy Thunder. Puck drops at 6:30.


Two games tonight in the Rural League at Antigonish Arena: 7:00 Outlaws vs Pleasantdale, 8:30 St Croix vs Heatherton.


Hergy Mayala had two touchdown reception to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a crucial 30-28 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jamari Gilbert had a fumble return and ran it back for his first C-F-L touchdown as Calgary moved into a tie with the Roughriders atop the C-F-L’s West Division standings.


McLeod Bethel-Thompson connected on two T-D strikes as the Toronto Argonauts held on for a 28-21 win over the Ottawa Redblacks to snap a three-game losing streak. Toronto was already out of the C-F-L’s playoff picture and played spoiler to the Redblacks. The Argos handed Ottawa its eighth straight loss and officially ended the Redblacks post-season hopes.


Anibal Sanchez carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning before the Washington Nationals completed a 2-0 shutout of the Cardinals in St. Louis to win the opener of the National League Championship Series. He put just three runners on base before pinch-hitter Jose Martinez cleanly singled to centre with two down in the eighth for the Cardinals’ first hit.


The Buffalo Sabres have three straight home wins to open a season for the first time since 2008-09 to strengthen their hold on first in the N-H-L’s Atlantic Division. Casey Mittelstadt and Jack Eichel scored shootout goals in Buffalo’s 3-2 victory against the Panthers. Kyle Okposo set up goals by Johan Larsson and defenceman Marco Scandella to help the Sabres match their best five-game start in a decade.


The Anaheim Ducks earned a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets as Ryan Miller turned back 26 shots in his first start of the season. Jakob Silverberg and Cam Fowler scored in helping Anaheim improve to 4-1. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Columbus.
