WinCo Foods Representative wins $10,000 in Groceries for the American Red Cross from Eckrich® during the Washington State Game

Donation to Help Those Affected By Western Wildfires

PULLMAN, Wash., Sept. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- During Saturday’s Washington State versus Boise State matchup, an unexpected turn of events for this week’s consumer winner of the Eckrich® Road to the National Championship Sweepstakes led to a big donation to the American Red Cross. Kyra Gorski from White Salmon, Washington, was unable to attend the game and attempt a million-dollar throw because of the wildfires burning in her area. Mary Pierce, vice president of deli operations at WinCo Foods, threw on her behalf and made a five-yard throw for $10,000 in free groceries to WinCo Foods. Since Gorski was ineligible for any winnings, Eckrich is donating the winnings to the American Red Cross to help assist victims of the Western wildfires.

Pierce first had an attempt from 20 yards to win $1 Million for the charity but, after an unsuccessful throw, she stepped up to the five-yard line and made a perfect throw to win $10,000 in free groceries.

"WinCo Foods has partnered with Eckrich for a number of years, and it's great to work with a brand that gives so much to the community," said Pierce. “It’s such a great feeling to make this throw and know that the winnings are going to the American Red Cross to help so many people in need who are affected by these wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. Thank you again to Eckrich, and everyone who was a part of making this happen!”

“We are proud to partner with WinCo Foods to make this donation to the American Red Cross, and we thank Ms. Pierce and WinCo Foods for helping us do it,” said Michael Paribello, Smithfield Foods senior director of marketing. “Whether tailgating or homegating, Eckrich smoked sausage and deli meats make great staple snacks while you’re cheering on your favorite team. The Eckrich Road to the National Championship is designed to provide fans with moments like this at some of the biggest games on the college football schedule!”

The sweepstakes will continue each week during the 2017 college football season, ending in Atlanta at the 2018 national championship game. Eckrich is the Official Smoked Sausage and Deli Meat sponsor of the College Football Playoff.
