Mark Pope and Kentucky men’s basketball picked up its fifth transfer portal addition on Monday afternoon as Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported that Florida transfer Denzel Aberdeen has committed to Kentucky.
Aberdeen, a rising senior guard, is coming off of a National Championship win with the Gators, bringing tons of postseason experience to the table.
Aberdeen spent three seasons with Florida, steadily improving his stats and minutes over the course of time, surging from an average playing time of 3.4 minutes his freshman year to an average of 19.7 minutes this past season as a junior.
This season, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 7.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists, shooting 41.8% from the field and 35% from deep through 39 games played. Aberdeen amounted an average of 6.6 field goals per game and an average of 2.6 3-point field goals per game as well.
In this year’s NCAA Tournament, Aberdeen strung together some decent showings in route to helping the Gators bring their third National Championship back to Gainesville. Through all six NCAA Tournament games, Aberdeen averaged 18.2 minutes, collecting an average of six points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.2 steals.
Aberdeen’s best NCAA Tournament showing came against the Maryland Terrapins in the Sweet 16, scoring 12 points, adding one rebound and one block, while shooting 5-7 from the field and 2-4 from three. Florida won that contest 87-71.
Aberdeen will join a Kentucky transfer class that is currently compiled with Tulane transfer Kam Williams, Alabama transfer Mouhamed Dioubate, Pittsburgh transfer Jaland Lowe and Arizona State transfer Jayden Quaintance.
