With the Edinburgh Marathon Festival returning, thousands are set to take to the streets.

The annual event will see participants take on the marathon, half marathon, 10k or 5k. Roads throughout the capital and East Lothian will be closed from Friday, May 23 until Sunday, May 25.

Police Scotland will also be present at the event, with Edinburgh Marathon organisers warning breaches of road closures will be taken 'very seriously'.

Starting at Poterrow, the full marathon kicks off through the city centre. Participants will head past Greyfriars Kirkyard, over the Royal Mile and down the Mound.

They'll then head along Princes Street Gardens, back onto the Royal Mile and past the Scottish Parliament. Runners will go past Arthur's Seat before heading east towards the Portobello promenade and past Musselburgh and Longniddry before looping back to the finish line.
