A MARKETPLACE event celebrating the strength of refugees has been held in Colchester.
The marketplace, called "Community as a Superpower", took place on June 19 at Colchester Church and was part of Refugee Week.
The free event aimed to provide support and resources to refugees and those seeking sanctuary in Colchester, with a particular focus on welcoming individuals and families new to the area.
Throughout the day, attendees could connect with various organisations offering information, resources, and support services for those seeking sanctuary.
This included Boys & Men UK CIC, Healthwatch Essex, RAMA, CAMS (Colchester Against Modern Slavery), Colchester and Tendring Youth Enquiry Service, Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Services, Essex Integration, Colchester Indian Association, Essex Sexual Health Service, Open Road, Essex Human Rights Centre, Colchester Borough Homes, Safe Harbour, St Helena, Colchester Institute, Digital Access, and Changing Lives Colchester.
The event also received support from African Families in the UK, Next Chapter, and Divine Assembly Ministries, who were present to share vital resources and guidance.
Jocelyn Law, councillor responsible for community and public protection, said: "This market event was a true celebration of resilience, unity and the sense of belonging that defines our community.
"It provided a warm and inclusive space where everyone could feel seen, supported, and welcomed.
"I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the pastor and congregation of Colchester Church for generously offering the venue free of charge.
"This event truly honoured the remarkable strength of our refugee communities and the transformative power of compassion in Colchester."
The event aimed to provide both practical support and a sense of belonging to attendees.
